She What?

I've just had a few of those months.
Buying material.
Planning.
Cutting.
Stitching.
Unpicking.
AAARRRGH!
Hide it in the chest until...

Buying material.
Planning.
Cutting.
Stitching.
Unpicking.
AAARRRGH!

Finally I have an end garment.
That I can wear.

Whilst in Korea I bought two Jersey Knit dresses & a Jersey Knit skirt.
Loved the material.
It does some justice to my curves that God so graciously gave me.
(I have a teeny tiny waist and then some!)

I really love maxi skirts & the combination of Jersey Knit & maxi...
couldn't resist.

This time I made a band instead of an elastic band for the top of the skirt.
It worked wonders for my body shape...

I like it.
I think I do.
It's not so maxi.
But for now I am going to bask in the glow of FINISHING a sewing project.

Healthy Natural Eating | Homemade Organic Yoghurt, Fruit and Home Toasted Muesli

Eating for our health is very important to us.
(yes we do pig out at times; chips, chocolates, biscuits all those yums;
we do however try to make those yums by ourselves)

We mostly consume fruit, veggies, eggs and meats, full cream dairy products and oats,
& recently we have been trying eliminate grains, legumes (very hard for me, I heart beans!),
refined sugars (also very hard) & much more!

This is such a difficult journey!
Trying to get TWO toddlers to eat this way is NOT easy.
Bread & instant noodles are my go to foods when all is chaotic!)
But we are getting there.
(They are always telling me how,
one day when they grow up they
are not going to have water in their swimming pool
but ALL the junk they can eat,
"& Mommy, it will never ever get finished!")

Here's one (the only one for the past two weeks) of our favorite breakfasts:

Jacques' Portion
Apples, Bananas, Pears, 1 Orange squeezed with Raw/Creamed Honey, Hemp Seed Powder with Homemade Organic Yoghurt, topped with Oats and Sesame Seeds toasted with Raw/Creamed honey and Olive Oil. Jacques gets to have three soft boiled eggs with his portion.

Joshy was convinced this HAD to be bad, because it was so yummy.
(All yummy things are bad in his head, but he still loves it!)
He thought he could only eat it once a month!
He was most pleased to hear that it was going to be breakfast
...
for the rest of his life!

Natural Lip Balm: Bee Sting

It was a warm winters day & as my boys climbed a tree and made mud pies,I decided to sit with my Earl Grey & read some...you know...Blogs.

Then I wanted to make something.

So I searched...Orange Layer Cake. (Nah)Jersey Knit Skirts. (Nah)How to get rid of Love Handles. (Maybe in the morning)

Then...Home made natural Lip Balm...click

My go to place for homemade beauty products.
Renee's recipe is so easy and YUM, that I made 2 batches, handed out 3 jars, sold 3 & kept 1.I changed it a little, as the lady in the health store,
practically chucked me out the store when I asked for Lanolin.
She said, in a her very strict German accent,
"you can find that at the supermarket!"
According to the Aunty, Lanolin is not absorbed by the skin
but sits on the skin not allowing the goodness of the other products in.
(I'm not sure if this is true, let me know what you think.)
So I listened to her, (because I was scared) & substituted Lanolin with coconut oil.

I dubbed this Lip Balm, Bee Sting, Jacques thinks it too negative.
Its just the mix of the sweet honey, & tingle of the spearmint just reminds me of a bee sting.

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp grated or roughly chopped beeswax
  • 7.5 tsp coconut oil
  • 3/4 tsp vitamin E
  • 2 tsp creamed honey
  • 3/4 tsp spearmint essential oil
Directions

1. In a small pot over medium low heat melt beeswax, coconut oil, & vitamin E. Use a whisk to ensure all the ingredients have dissolved.
2. Remove from heat & add honey & spearmint oil. Whisk well and try to distribute oil & honey throughout the mixture.
3. As you pour into the jars, stir the mixture to ensure an even distribution of the ingredients.
4. Let it cool on the counter till hard.

*this recipe makes 7 jars of 30 ml each if doubled.

(Please excuse the awful photo, I have terrible light in my kitchen and I am not so much a fan of my flash)
Yummy Lip Balm

Me & My Nonsense.

I am not sure if i have really introduced myself.
Or if you know me or have somewhat of an idea me.
So I’d like to introduce myself.
My Name, Nicola Rothmann, my maiden surname is Daniel.
I am South African Indian, my family was probably brought here,
from India by ship about four to five generations ago.
I have an older sister & an older brother.
Love my Mummy & my Dada.
I do not speak my mother tongue, in fact I have no idea what it is.
I speak English, Afrikaans, Zulu & Kid.
I married the most wonderful, amazing, awesomest man for me, at 21.
Studied theology.
I’m in a mixed race family.
Lived in Thailand, wanted to change the world.
Returned to ZA, had Joshua Levi.
The most happiest curly haired boy I ever knew!
Worked in Advertising, climbed up the corporate ladder.
At 26 had Elijah Daniel, the most bubbliest child ever.
Had a reality check.
Hated leaving my Boys sleeping & returning to them sleeping.
Gave up the money to be at home.
Gave up the car to play.
Gave up take out for home cooking.
Gave up shoes to run barefoot.
Gave up the hairdryer to have curly hair...all the time!
Ah it was bliss!
(it still is)
Moved to South Korea.
Had a blast!
Came back to ZA.
I like being a naturalist,
I wish it was easier.
So far my journey towards it is fun.
I love being a Mummy, but sometimes I scream & shout.
(even though I know I shouldn’t be)
I would love to sew my families clothes,
but goodness its difficult.
I love the earth.
I love that it was created.
Recycling is hard, but worth it.
My favorite colors are all the colors, its just so hard to choose.
I do love Oranges & Reds & Duck Egg Blue.
(but i always choose basic colors so it has longevity)
I love growing my own things.
Organic is awesome.
I love God & I love His heart, His word, His creation.
Its sometimes difficult for me to chat to Him.
Apple cider vinegar stinks; my hair & skin love it!
I try to make the most & best of everyday with my family.
I make mistakes & say things I don’t mean.
Jesus forgives me.
I love tea & have a weird relationship with it.
I love looking good for my husband&; I also love chips& chocolate.
Yoga, eating well, walking, playing, keeping busy.
I also love reading& biking, here in ZA I don't have a bike.
I love my Dogs, I have 5.
All these things have their struggles,
I’d hate it if came about like I have got this thing together.
I fall apart.
I get lazy.
I get tired.
I get angry.
I loose my patience.
I loose my togetherness.
I wear my emotion on my face.
I say what I want at times & loose all control.
I sometimes manage my money like a donkey.
I buy frozen chips.
I hate being in photos.
I think I am creative.
I can be painfully pedantic.
I love to jump on the trampoline.
Trekking through a bush & getting my hands full of dirt
is joyful.
I hardly have time to write.
But I wish I did.
I love my family & do most things for them.
This is me & my nonsense.
Whats yours?
L&L

Hope you enjoy a peek into my days gone.
