A Constant State of Inadequacy

You get some pretty confident people out there. (hypothetical hat off to you!)
I am  n o t  one of them.
There are very few times when I look at myself through my eyes and am only slightly content.
The rest of the time I see myself through other peoples eyes.
How terribly sad!
There are so many things in Life that I am missing out on because I am in a constant state of inadequacy.
And I believe that I am not the only one.

Imagine if our minds were decluttered of all self negativity.
Zero self deprecation.
Your self worth was understood by YOU.
Accepted by YOU.
How would we truly feel if we believed, we are

"fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are Your works,
m y  soul KNOWS it well."
- Psalm 139:14

I think that we would all feel a beautiful freedom.
I'm talking about the freedom to understand fault and know in your heart of hearts that understanding comes, e v e n t u a l l y.
This Knowing that the Psalmist is talking about, it can only come from God.
It is a knowledge that is always there and a knowledge that has always been there.
God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent.
The truth is here and we are created in truth.
So somewhere inside us is truth and it is beautiful.

Inadequacy and Comparability.
How often these two go together?
How often it slowly kills the soul!
We feel inadequate because we are constantly comparing ourselves.
Constantly judging our inabilities.
Focusing on what we cannot do, instead of knowing that we can learn.
I am learning, very slowly, that inability is not a weakness.
It does not define me.
It shows me that I am teachable. If and only, I am willing.
If I allow myself to be consumed by all the things that I am not,
I become useless, I become a wet rag, a wet self deprecating rag.

There is honor in learning and being taught.
Honor in feeling incapable and knowing that in time you will become adequate.

Help my Unbelief by Audrey Assad

We shouldn't be comparing ourselves, God didn't create us that way.
We are all uniquely designed and crafted,
handmade with our own faults and our own imperfections.
But we were also designed with a beautiful craftsmanship, our own qualities
that inspire others and motivate goodness, (if we carry them out with humility).
Our own struggles.
Our own situations.
And in HIS time, and with our desire to become better, we will become beautiful.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart,
yet so that he cannot find out
what God has done from the beginning to the end.
I perceived that there is nothing better for them
than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live;
also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—
this is God’s gift to man.
I perceived that whatever God does endures forever;
nothing can be added to it,
nor anything taken from it.
God has done it, so that people fear before him.
That which is,
already has been;
that which is to be,
already has been;
and God seeks what has been driven away.
- Ecclesiastes 3: 11-15

I cannot explain how useless I felt two years into being an "at home" mom, and whilst I was reading Dwija's blog, I came across a beautiful painting "The Polish Madonna" by (not sure, have really tried to google it - probably not well enough though!)
It made my heart so content that I cried and felt stupid about the small things I do and realised that they are important!
The things that I lacked in like patience, mercy, grace, charity and forgiveness they would come because I deny inadequacy. Even when I fail, I will see that I am teachable because that is enough!

Polish Madonna

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”

What I Wore Sunday | & this week in captures

Linking up with all the beautiful women over at Fine Linen and Purple.

Most of the time small things occupy this heart.
And life seems so worth those moments.
When you're running around, going from one thing to the next;
there's that single moment that captures your heart.
That moment when you feel so loved by your children and your husband.
That moment when you want to leave the shopping cart and run back to them.
Back to the craziness,
the loudness,
the kisses,
the cuddles,
those perpetual questions
those faces
and those hearts that seem to have a depth
that is endless.

My heart and my soul,
overflows with gladness,
and the blessing that is my family.
"...for out of the overflow of the heart my mouth speaks." Luke 6:45 - paraphrase

"What is done in love is done well." - Vincent Van Gogh

Life | The Mommyness of Me

Linking up with Mel for Monday Mamlogues...errrr yes its Tuesday, but why not.

Every now and then I wonder what my life would be without Jacques, Josh and Lijie???

The bathroom would be mine.
There would be no toys to step on.
I would never need to dust toy shelves.
Books would always be on the shelf.

Uhhh...no.

I love that when I'm in the bathroom, there are doodles all over the mirror, little stick people playing around my shower doors. Or the random questions that get asked when my toothbrush is doing its rounds in my mouth. (The toothbrush gives you time to think about your answer!)

Toys are exciting and never what they are.
And the narration that goes with them....SO CUTE!!!
And if you do step on them, then it just becomes a part of the game.

If I never had to dust toy shelves I would never find birthday cards, little love notes to each other, a picture of myself when I was 12.

Books around the house are a reminder that we are learning together as a family.
It makes my heart skip a beat when my children love Nesbit, Lewis and Macdonald.
And I get all dreamy when Jacques starts reading our last book in the Wheel Of Time Series.

So yes.
A sad and boring life it would be.
No need for God, or wet wipes, or a desire to grow.
The sink would be empty and so would my heart.
I always think, "ahh but I could have joined a convent."
But I only know this spirituality because of my family,
my Boys,
my Mommyness.

Go on and see how Mel's Mommyness is growing.

Life | Another one of those Days

Linking up with Mel from Needle and Nest today for Monday Mamologues...

So this morning I woke up ready to SLAMDUNK anyone and anything!
(Yep I do think it was the fact that I miss my time with God this morning)
After Lijie spent THIRTY minutes brushing his teeth and still not being finished.
I shouted at him and just went crazy on the poor child...

I think it was horrible for him as it was for me.
I hate scolding them and I hate getting angry.
It just ruins those moments we should be ENJOYING!

So after I climbed out the shower and tied my hair in a snazzy little bun, I stuck a faux flower in my hair and told myself I'm going to claim this day for happiness; anger, frustration and mental exhaustion step ASIDE!

I sat that Little Bump on my lap and we had a good cuddle and hug session.
Told that I should be more patient with him.
(The little guy has memory loss, seriously, he is a "dreamer").
He forgets everyday things and that makes tasks really hard for him.

After hugs and kisses I announced that it was going to be a play day today, because mommy is really hormonal irritable, and the conversation went slightly like this...

Josh: Ohhhhhh I know! Its because of your boobies right????!!!!
Me: ummmmmmm....well kind off. I just want you two to have fun today and Mommy doesn't want to ruin it for you.
Josh: Ohhhhhhhh, I understand Mommy.
Liji: And... and... and Mommy when you shouted at me in the bathroom, all I could think was "I just wanted to have a nice day today"
Me, slightly paling: Ahh Babies, I am so sorry! Lets have fun!

So we called in sick, ha, and now I can hear them bouncing HAPPILY on the trampoline and I can sip my warm milk and honey and hit the PUBLISH button.

I think I'm going to get that sewing machine out...
